were your comparisons done blind or sighted?

I also knew the price difference and was skeptical. It wasn't a subtle difference. I did not want to like them. And changing speakers gave completely opposite results.
The cables were Transparent and they come with a box inline with the interconnect. IMO they provided some form of equalization that smoothed out the high frequency of the loudspeakers.
With my gear differences between interconnects is more often heard than not but it's not unusual to find interconnects that sound the same. Another FWIW given different equipment if differences are not heard it doesn't mean the system is less resolving - it just means the i/o characteristics of the connected components are different.
Should never be underestimated. And while bias effects may sound like something quite linear in it's effect it isn't always. We are wired in such a way that they are inevitable.
Sothe difference may or may not have been caused by the actual sound. Same for the preference.
Little is more false in audio than the belief that spending more means better sound - but that's just my opinion. Sure I'm confident one could spend more and get better sound but I'm more confident I would be more likely to get worse sound unless I was very very careful.

Personally I still want to know what my preferences are based on. It's funny how after doing some blind comparisons those big differences in cables went away for me. Arguably yet another result of bias effects. OTOH it would make for an interesting choice if the opposite were true and I continued to hear positive differences.
I would be willing to bet that anyone who has spent 50K+ on the flagship Nordost cables believe those cables actually do something special to the actual audio signal that can't be done by other means for a fraction of the price. And that those cables make an actual improvement to the sound and are not just triggering bias based preferences.
If you are willing to spend more money on cables because you are all in on the bias effects I would not try to talk you out of it.
As I have said before, I'd rather spend it on things that do make actual audible differences. But we are all on our own perosnal journey.
Disconnecting my old CDP and putting a new much more expensive CDP in its place resulted in a night and day difference. I was actually astounded by how much better the new CDP sounded. I was going to buy it but decided to put the old CDP back in and give it one more listen. Lo and behold it sounded really freeking good - and then it occurred to me whenever I remove and reattach interconnects the system sounds better. It's a real thing and something I would do every now and then when cleaning the system. But never really thought of it as relevant to a demoing gear - but it is important.
Just a thought on what could have happened to a disappearing night and day difference.
But that is not always the case. You act as if it were. Besides your new player wasn't broken in properly. Whaddya expect?
That I believe it's always the case, that the new player wasn't broken in and that I had an expectation. I had no expectation - that's why I was doing the demo.
But you're making far too many assumptions about my CDP comparison based upon a single observation I shared.
Doesn't matter though your points are worth noting.
I apologize if my assumptions were wrong. By the way, which assumptions were wrong?
That the new player wasn't burned in, that it always happens and that I had an expectation.
