Then somewhere around the 1980s (around the same time as 'cables' as a botique market began) the prices started going up.. FAST. Many products doubled in price nearly overnight. For example: Infinity IRS was $20,000. (Probably the most expensive speakers of all at that time) suddenly within a few years the SAME system was $70,000. Many other products had the same steep rise in prices. Of course they were model upgrades... (yeah sure).
Wht annoys me is that up until the 1980s, i could afford the best stuff made (if i wanted to spend the money) After the 1980s, No way could i EVER afford the best audio products. The prices just went crazy.
Follow Ups:
in the 80s mid-fi quality started to go down (THD wars). and then the lunitic fringe stuff started up, as well as the extreame high prices, much of which started to not even sound that good.
Give me analog or give me silence!
