...in the early 1980s I had a friend with double KLH 9s.
When we did listening or comparisons he would set 3 kitchen chairs in a row, one behind the other.
One shoot-out there was between my Randall Research speaker cable and Bruce Brisson's new company MIT's MH750 Music Hose.
We knew Bruce because he was local and belonged to our Audio Society.
The Randall won because the MH750 sounded a little veiled and rolled off on top.
Follow Ups:
I recall hearing double KLH-9's at J. Peter Moncrief's apartment in Boston on many occasions. They were quite impressive. This was a long time ago, perhaps in the 70's.

Reminded you of those little fuzzy creatures from Star Trek.
...in about 1980 I went to his apartment in Berklely with a buddy, something having to do with the Audio Society we started. It was just off Telegraph Ave. below the Cal campus - I think he was managing the building.
He was a colorful, interesting guy to say the least.
Anyway his apartment was a real mess. In the entry there was a big pile of audio parts and a TV picture tube.
These were the days of the first few large issues of IAR and claims he kept loaned manufacturer's equipment to experiment and make things from.
In the apartment there were wall to wall, ceiling high shelves built from 2 X 4s stacked full of LPs.
There was a dilapidated red easy chair against a wall and across from it a pair of Accoustat speakers. Obviously the listening spot.
He used to ride his bike around Berkeley. He was a big guy and he'd wear shorts, a t-shirt and earmuffs, even in the summer, to protect his hearing.
He'd come to Audio Society meetings and sit there without saying much eating a sack lunch which always included a noisy apple.
Now he has come into some money, lives in a big castle near San Diego and drives a Porsche.
