Jeff Rowland gear is probably one of the exceptions with extreme case work and cost.
Some Jeff Rowland cases and front panels probably cost more than anything you're getting inside in terms of electronics. That's just my layman's guess but I don't see the need for a case and face machined out of a solid block of aluminum to house "chip amp modules" inside which is how the recent line of JRDG mono blocks are housed.
Additionally, I have never seen a Jeff Rowland front panel in great shape that is more than a few years old. Whatever clear coat they use on the front panel is usually smudged, chipped, or yellowed in short order compared to other makes. They're lovely to look at for the first couple years but way to delicate in my opinion.
All that being said, I did like the sound of the Concentra II that I once owned but I'm sure I was paying WAY too much for looks and that lovely case work.

Abe,
I knew that some used six LM3886, three parallel and bridged to get more voltage swing and current. A friend had one and loved it. I never listened to it becuase it was a chipamp and I KNEW it had to suck. Sometimes you get a little smarter as you get older.
But I have read where Rowland also used the TDA7294? Do you know which models used this older mosfet chip instead of the Overture series bipolars from National?
I have some active speakers that use the TDA7294, and with careful feeding it can sound very nice. Maybe not up to a 3886, but very high quality.
George
I'm not that familiar with Jeff Rowland history and I'm not complaining about how their equipment sounds. I was pretty impressed with the Concentra II integrated even though I later learned about the LM3886 modules inside.

FWIW, I've had my Jeff Rowland amp for about 6 years and it looks as good now as the day I bought it.
