I've never knew of a CD-RW that actually worked for audio..... The few I tried wouldn't play at all.
CD-Rs are a different story..... The good ones play just like commercial CDs.![]()
Follow Ups:
If I remember the numbers correctly, a CD-R was only about 70% reflective as a commercially pressed CD, while the CD-RW was down to about 40%. That's why many of the audio playback decks couldn't read CD-RWs, though there were some that could. There were even some audio CD decks that didn't do well with CD-Rs. Meanwhile, CD drives for computers were generally able to read all types since the need for the recording & playback of data presented a greater need for that flexibility.
