The D-25 portable CD player is regarded by many as the best portable CD player ever made for sound quality. Ken still has some, so slide over to ALO and max out your credit card. ;-) You will have to get a battery too.

The early to mid 80s where the peak years of my Sony fandom ;-) Besides the D25, I owned a cassette Walkman which was the size of a cassette case, and it actually expanded a bit to hold the tape, a TCD-D3 DAT Walkman (the best-ever sounding Walkman IMO), a very fancy Betamax VCR, and of course, a Sony shortwave radio.
Seem to recall that the D25 was expensive even then, like $275. I wasn't aware of any of today's higher-end ear buds, so I just used the Sony-provided set, which had unusual rear-firing drivers, but they had a fairly lightweight sound and didn't especially impress me. Nice metal enclosure though. The proprietary lead-acid battery was kind of a pain in the butt.
