Charlie,
Forgot to mention: no preamp. Either the tape deck or the DAC was used to feed straight to the power amps. Volume control for the digital sources was done with the BADA DAC; our tape machine was fitted with a Penny & Giles fader on the output. There was a custom switchbox to select between the sources.
I wish you had tackled playback electronics---or that you could find the time in the future. The ATR-100 is a fabulous transport, but the repro electronics are its weak point, in my opinion.

Follow Ups:
All we have to do is to change a few time constants in our RIAA MC phono stage and it's a no-brainer. (We've even made a flat version for a custom mic preamp once.)
The record side is a bit trickier. You need constant current drive for the record head. Plus I have a sneaking suspicion that the bias oscillator will have a bigger effect than one might think at first glance. But if you're seriously interested, I'd at least *think* about it. Drop me an e-mail.
Thanks Valin?
