Some of the dates shown on Qobuz were those of the original LP issues, (e.g., "1961" as in the example I showed).
We do know from interviews and other info that Tom Fine's remasters would be originating from Australia however. So any listing which includes "Australia" is almost certainly one of Tom's remasters as I figure it.
Follow Ups:
On Qobuz a clear comparison can be made on tracks of the Bizet Carmen Suite as the old and the "new" versions are both there.
I just did that and cannot discern a difference. Perhaps someone with better (or younger) ears or a more resolving audio system can. Also, a significant difference my await a high definition stream. But I wonder. Or perhaps the date (as in not 2022) makes a difference.
You can hear the two versions. What's your verdict?
Or, for that matter, on any available streaming service?
Right now, the path of my music via Qobuz (computer -> outboard DAC -> analog connections to the pre/pro) is different enough from the path of my music via the disc player (universal player -> HDMI -> pre/pro) that I wouldn't be sure what was causing any perceived differences. If both the old and the new CD's use the same path, I'm thinking that the comparison will be more valid?
Right now, I wouldn't want to rely on my memory of how the older CD's sound in comparison to the Qobuz incarnations of the new remasters. I'm sure I'll be able to get to the more valid comparison (described above) next week, once my order from Amazon arrives.
But on Qobuz you have BOTH old and new on the Bizet disk and also a few Chabrier tracks BOTH old and new on Qobuz. So the paths are the same.
Do you feel you get better SQ off a disk than from streaming? You'll be hurting Qobuz's feelings if you do.
Qobuz often has great sound quality - but, for me, it's not as reliable as my home-sourced discs and files. On certain days, Qobuz doesn't sound as good to me as it does on other days or even other times of the same day. As I noted before, I listen to Qobuz via Audirvana, because I found the sound of Qobuz's own player not as clean. I wouldn't begin to speculate on the reason(s) for this.
You're right though that in some cases, Qobuz has both the new Tom Fine remasters as well as the Wilma Cozart Fine incarnations from decades ago, and, if you feel you feel that you can rely on the consistent sound from Qobuz, than that sort of all-Qobuz comparison might be useful.
For me, I'm just going to have to wait until my CD's arrive. I got a notice that they've shipped, but they're not expected to be here until Thursday or Friday of next week.
