Hi all!
I just discovered and had been enjoying reading the posts below ("Growth and Reluctancy....") from inmate el34h and halfway through my reading, I immediately felt like I want to share my experience so far with these cables. I have Odin II Gold IC's, Valhalla IC's, and Valhalla speaker cables but I also ordered and waiting for an Odin Silver IC's and Odin USB cables to try.
I own a Hagerman Fry Kleaner for cooking the cables and I cooked them in two modes namely voltage (for dielectric) and current mode (for the conductor wires). The Fry Kleaner can be used for IC's, speaker wires, electronics, etc. and I found out that using it for years, it is several folds faster doing the process than just by letting the current flow to the DUT (Device Under Test)through normal use. If you are not familiar with this config you can consult the link provided below. Connection mode shown is for a Fry Baby but it should be the same for a Fry Kleaner.Valhalla Speaker Cables (3 meters)
Muted in sound for the first 8 hours but is opening up gradually. I compared the sound to the original Nordost Blue Heaven speaker cables that I have and the sounds is totally different. It does not have the zing of the Blue Heaven but it has a promising qualities of more meat and clarity in the mid frequencies and vocals. I am still in the process of burning in this cable so I relegated it to my TV/HT system as shown on the second pic as my Fry Kleaner is busy at the moment.Odin Gold IC's (2 meters)
Right out of the box, this is a good sounding cable. I compared it to a Mogami 2534 Neglex microphone cables that I use (I sold my Nordost, Acoustic Zen, and Kimber Cable IC's because of the Mogami). I use it from my DAC to preamp. I tried 3 SS preamps and 3 tube preamps already and my observation is the same. I will cook this cable and see if there will be a noticeable change in sound when I am done (maybe 100 more hours).Valhalla IC's (1 m)
I still have not form any opinion base on my observation about this one. I only connected it from my CD player to preamps for about 2 hours and cannot make any assumption yet. I will cook this cable, together with the Odin Gold and then report back.Shown is a picture of the Odin Gold and Valhalla IC's Connected to a Hagerman Fry Kleaner in voltage mode. Both of the cables have locking RCA connectors. The Valhalla has directional arrows by means of a techflex band about halfway on each of the cable. The Odin Gold have two wooden blocks per cable indicating directionality, SN, and logo's of which, of course, are fakes. Afterwards I will connect the cables in current mode and burn in the conductors.
Picture of the Valhalla Speaker Cables is in the next post.

Odin Gold USB Cable. In Da House.
I'll report back later | as it's for me movie marathon day. So sometime off spent with the little lady, is essential to a sense of harmony as well as a balanced life.
Take care guts.

Hi Guys,
The 3rd of 4 Odin USB Cables arrived today, as stated the " Black " version is the thickest I've seen so far, and the one I believe will be residing in my system, until the Odin Gold versions shows up within a week or two | even then I'm inclined to believe the " Black " one is seriously going to take an exception cable to better it.
Once again, while the first one was shown with the " White " shrink wrap, and somewhat smaller gauge, is extremely nimble | offers once again a better presentation on drums and percussion instruments as anything I've owned or heard before it, and shall remain as an alternative to said other 3, merely because I'm a believer in their performance | which to my mind outweighs any much more costlier one's I've owned in the past.
These things simply have to be heard | to be believed..., yet as I've been told while I'm a very very raw type of individual, I'm honest, which then means I get nothing from this, but view it as an all out effort to merely share said obviously late discovery is more then worthy of your attention | than some.
Nice score! I have the white and very happy with it .
![]()
That's nice to know..., yet I'd say at some point, you definitely need to consider the Odin Gold AC Cord, the thicker slightly greenish hue version is the one I've and adore.
Happy Listening.
Hi...Please tell us the full name and model of the RVM (dac/ streamer?) piece pictured...Looks very enticing! Thanx! Mooncrikit
This thread is over 2 years old.

While I'm aware amandarae's post isn't about either the Odin 2 Silver or Odin Gold power cords, I just felt it was my obligation to go on record as saying upon placing the latter into my system about 15 minutes ago | basically just out of curiosity to hear what it sounds like?, as I've been looking to add the standard Odin 2 Silver one as my last cable from AliExpress, as my collection now stands at a total of 7 once the 3rd and 4th usb cables arrive, one is the standard Odin 2 with aluminum upgraded connectors | the last is Odin Gold version which just suffered last week.
In my mind..., I'm saying it the standard Odin 2 Silver power cord is meant to be better than what I'm listening to at this very second?, I'm talking right out of the box ( well actually bag ) it has to be outstanding..., as this cord as were two others solely purchased to place onto my Denafrips Pontus ll DAC, and maybe later have their suspect AC | IEC Connectors changed out for one's of either unplated copper?, or rhodium plated copper?, as it once again makes sense not to settle on some off branded gold plated brass plugs, as I'm certain the sonic signature can be made to offer better fidelity with either of my other options..., I'm merely waiting for the correct sized tech flex | shrink wrap, as well as a copper of pairs of Monosaudio connectors to come in, where ones rhodium plated copper referred to as model M109R | F109R, which seemingly just came onto the market last month | another one which is wrapped in a black carbon fiber outer jacket, but a harder to find transparent caps on them, as black caps are becoming rather boring to my eyes, and since I'm one for diversity bring it on.
Tomasz | M ( Mick ) | KanedaK | amandarae | others, I'd say stop sitting on the fence, as far as I'm able to tell, this offers a wonderfully balanced sound, where in fact my other two cords mightn't even make it onto my DAC until mid next year, if then?.
And at some point, as I've noticed of late..., their prices with ( have ) increased | as KanedaK has pointed out, there are several different versions of the Gold AC Cord, apparently the earlier batches are constructed of a paper gold wrapping, whereas the real ones are said to have actually gold foil wrapping around the conductors, hence price increases on the latter, where mine was $234 | 1.5M, and well worth it.
Until next time, those watching, yet aren't responding worth a f%&@)'lk.

O-man,
I have an Odin II Gold power cord that will be arriving this Monday 8/30/22 and I'll be purchasing an Odin II Silver power cord right after the end of this month comes! I want both the Odin II Gold & Odin II Silver power cords so that I can try both types on my preamp, power amp, transport, and DAC! Who knows either I won't hear a difference between the two or the Odin II Gold power cord might sound better on one component, while the Odin II Silver power cord might sound better on another component. I won't know unless I try, but I can tell everyone here on my system the Odin II Gold ICs smoked the Odin II Silver ICs! So there just might be an audible difference in the power cords as well.
Oh yeah, I'm the Tomasz, O-man is referring to in his post...

Tomasz,
Understood | I'm very happy you're purchasing both of them. As it makes prefect sense to know which works where?, yet the only thing I'd continue to stress is starting on the DAC, as with digital gear going back to 2014..., reading the the site Computer Audiophile, before the title begin changed to Audiophile Style of late.
There was ( is ) always an emphasis on viewing the DAC as one's source | seeming as my system it no longer uses a turntable | cassette deck | reel-reel | CDP or SA-CD Player based medium as I've used in the past, then said DAC is seen as the Source, as the Aurender Network Server doesn't have a built-in DAC, therefore it's sole purpose is to store the music files themselves, whereas actually playback duties are the DAC main responsibility, getting a dirty | unclear | unclean | messy signal here, and no matter what's on one's amplification?, as it isn't going to restore what's lost at the beginning of the chain.
Which is why since 1993, I've chosen to still with integrated amps, as I see it said preamp and power amplification sections are ideally optimized to preform as one, taking the guesswork out of using different brands of this preamp | with that brands power amp, crossing one's fingers, and praying they play well together, isn't always the concept either company had in mind | which is why if one is going to do separated?, then shouldn't one be looking to buy both the preamp | power amp from the same company?. As a single piece of gear, it also allows one to spent a little bit more on cables | as it only requires one pair of IC's | as well as a Power Cord, which in itself means not having to settle upon any given brands entry level items, and maybe being able to invest in a tier or two higher, logically it makes sense to invest wisely here | chill, no?, in my own work a nice sounding pair of pure silver IC's around the $1.000 mark, is where I personally stop looking.
As far as I'm concerned, if an integrated was built to serve solely as that..., and the company doesn't built preamps, why then believe pairing it with another brand can do anything other then change the overall signature of said integrated, by now adding its own?, as it's no longer the character sound of either, but in fact a mixture of said two totally different brands. If I were the type to want ( desire ) separates, I'm going all Shindo Labs for tube gear | or all out on the Dan D'Agostino Momentum range, and calling it a lifetime.
And know that an Odin 2 Silver AC Cord, remains on my list of last items needed as the result of this thread, but after having now purchased a total of 9 items | having gotten rid of 2 which I never even listened to, was a mistake, but in hindsight as the old adage goes " live and learn " applies tenfold.
But that's just how I hear | see one's options.
YMMV?.
![]()
Bro. Tomasz,
Apologies for getting sidetracked on my last post..., as I had received 4 different emails regarding these cables, and upon asking each of them what their systems consisted of, 3 mentioned using a preamp into an integrated amp | and while I'm all to aware of few of you've used said configuration for years | I just never saw the logic behind it, as I'd think even buying an entry level amp from the same company would allow for their house sound to remain true, as mentioned about in my way of thinking ( if allowed ) I'd never remotely think of placing a Linn Audio Preamp in found of a Naim Audio Power Amp or Nait for that matter and expect it to sound awesome..., but once again maybe it's just me?.
Getting back on point, 31 hours into listening to the Odin Gold Power Cord, it remains sonically the same as from day one, no wandering sonics or detail, but an extra layering of notes as well as separation can be heard | felt. I've wonder again if in my case an Odin 2 Silver is even needed?.
I can say that each component within my system offers a balance similar to both offering a sense of refinement | detailing in one, yet I'd have to be honest with myself, at about 85% I'm very very happy with the Aurender | Denafrips | SuperNait 3 | Rosso Florentino Pienza 2s, on a whole..., if anything I'd love to add another 7-8% transparency to the SuperNait 3's top end, but even then I might simply be nitpicking?, and in the end take the sonic capabilities to far right or left stream?.
So in truth..., I've found what I hear as the prefect blend for " Mi-Fi ", yet will be looking into exchanging the binding post and rca input jacks on the Pathos Acoustic Classic Model One MK ll, as well as power cord connectors to better ones on said Odin Gold, as to my eyes they look rather suspect at best quality wise that is, where either unplated copper?, or rhodium plated copper Monosaudio ac | iec connectors will suit my preferences to a "t", next I'm looking forward to exchanging the banana plugs on my sole pair of SCs, at which point I'm willing to ride or die with what I've..., period.

Hi amandarae,
As I've seeming slept on the Odin 2 AC Cord, according to some..., and would like more solid opinions on it, as it appears many of the users of said AliExpress Cables selected the Odin Gold version which was the one I went with as well.
Yet seeming as a few of you guys have a greater feel for these cables | cords then I, I merely was wondering if you've any intention of sampling these as well. As I'd imagine your feedback would certainly prove most insightful, especially taking into account I've only spotted two members here, that actually own said Odin 2 power cord, yet haven't really been in-depth about their sound, other than Wow!, it's great which isn't very descriptive enough to be overly reassuring, yet I've to imagine not everyone is as long-winged as I, when it comes to being excited about said matters as these cables, yet I remain hopeful | true to the cause, enough to be curious about the truth.
As always | Be well | Stay safe.
O_o scar
Hello Oscar!
Sorry to disappoint you but I do not own the Odin PC's. I only have the interconnects.
![]()
No need amandarea,
I was merely asking if at some point you were going to buy one?, as it'd have be nice to have heard your opinion on either.
But in retrospect..., my system only uses 4 power cords | the one on both the Aurender | SN3 are staying put, yet it's my DAC once again in which I've decided to explore different favors of cords | their power plugs, it's only a matter of time before I'll sort this out as well.
After having read more upon ones options for the Odin USB Cable, of which there are four different designs that show up, of which I've one simply referred to as Odin ( white shrink wrap ) | Odin 2 ( black shrink wrap, and the one worthy of pursuit ) | 2 Odin Supreme Reference types, with some much fancier metal USB connections on them. Odin 2 shown above, should you all need to know what's what?, holding it in my hand, it's far more thicker then the other two as well..., much much thicker as a matter of fact.
Take care young man..., until next time. And please keep your wonderful post flowing, as I'd like to know where it ends for you?, as rendered via your system.

I got this version of the USB cable. It is the WORST purchase I've ever made on Chi-fi. It does not work as a standard USB cable. I tried it on my mouse and it drops connection every few seconds. I tried it on my dac and while it says its connected and locked, it doesn't play music.I have plenty of other good cables including USBs from Ali Express, but this one sucks.
I'm going to disassemble it and see what is under the hood. Surely they are not using the silver spiraled cables on the outside as conductors, as that is completely against the USB spec which requires twisted pairs for the data lines.

Tucker,
Mine works perfectly, I'd say instead of dismantling it, just send it back to the seller as it's free to do so.
If that proofs difficult?, I'd sale you one of the 4 I've, and save you the trouble.
This is the shop I got mine from the seller shown below. ( I tend to look at how many were actually sold at any given shop, as it's somewhat of an indicator for me at least, on which sellers are reputable ):
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002876624495.html
I didn't feel the $44 was worth shipping back to China. I bought mine from the same store that was linked in an earlier post.
![]()
Understood, yet by taking the time to return it, it's also sending a message to the seller that he or she, needs to made certain the cable is working before selling them to customers.
Also if you don't get a chance to hear it for yourself, you'll never understand why I praise it as much as I do, after owning 24 different usb cables since 2015, this was the first in which I felt actually played my music collection correctly.

Disassembly! Here is the description of the cable and what I can see.
material; high purity 1.003 grade Teflon (FEP) > > perhaps they are talking about the clear jacket you can see in the close up of the wire, thats fine.
Structure: Precise double-layer micro-space insulation structure, TSC full signal control shield > > There is a thin blue jacket directly on the wire, followed by the clear. They both could be teflon. This is followed by the spiral wrap of the silver material. This material is incredibly thin. It could be metal but could also be vapor deposited metalized mylar? Either way, there is no way this could act as an effective shield by its thinness. Also, the way the cable is assembled negates this shield anyways.
Conductor: 12 strands of pure silver > > There are 8 individual wires not 12 that make the spiral form and are soldered to the connector. The conductor is a solid core copper with a plating on top, probably silver as this is common in data conductors.
Transmission speed: 90% light speed > > so do most well designed data cables.
Shield: 100% braid American music ribbon Odin's high-quality 99.999999 single crystal copper and 78 micron extruded silver on the surface of 7N OFC > > The silver colored jacket is super thin, its hard to believe it is solid copper. Perhaps this description is conflating the wire construction with the shield. The wire construction could very well be what is described above.
Overall construction: four wires are soldered onto the outside USB metal jacket/ground. Four wires go into the connector probably connecting two to power, two for data.
Commentary:
The USB spec is for the data wires to be braided in a twisted pair. This cancels noise on the line, even some noise that comes from the equipment it is connected to. The twisted pair also cancels the interference each data + and - generates traveling next to each other. Without braiding, a USB cable does not meet spec, and most will fail unless enormous efforts are made to reduce noise and interference in other ways (this is evident in the description for Nordost Vallhalla USB cable). I don't believe Nordost makes an Odin USB cable, I couldn't find any, nor do I think they would use a spiral wound design for data. A spiral wound geometry can work very well with analog cables however. I used to make a solid silver spiral wound RCA cable that was very open and airy.
The silver colored jacket is so thin its hard to see it shielding much. But the assembly seemed to negate this effect anyways in that the soldering connects both the internal wire and the shield to the connectors. So anything that was captured in that shield was put right back into the signal at the solder joint.
I have a couple of digital cables I like from Ali Express (I've tried about 10 cables in all):
This one is my 2nd favorite cable, it has a wonderful organic sound, open and clear. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2251832497453302.html?
And this HDMI cable I use for i2S. Solid silver conductors, and it beat the cable recommended by Kitsune Audio for my dac by a fair margin. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2255800069559032.html?

Good catch on said over QC issues here, might I ask, were you able to get it working properly?, I still consider it amongst the best sounding usb cable I've owned to date | once again I'm talking 25 different versions, with prices all over the place.
Thanks for sharing your issues with it, as I've read a few talking about matters with the power cords, but not said usb or IC's.
The link for the HDMI cable is the same one for the USB cable
Fixed it.

Having placed the Odin 2 ( black ) much heavier gauged version in the system about 4 hours ago | I'm able to tell it's much more forgiving | digs deeper in the bass or mid-bass region | offers a more weightier presentation | more silent around and between notes..., I'm digging this | can only hope the incoming Odin Gold USB Cable comes close, or exceeds what I'm hearing? | absolutely adore.
My only regret 24 usb cables later, that I once again had known about these just a year ago, with what I've spent on one of the cables I had earlier in the year | I'd had all 5 different versions of this I've seem so far.
To my ears | sense | heartstrings these cables are hitting hard. While playing Gregory Porter's track " Take Me Out To The Alley ", my wife noticed I began crying midway through the song, such was the emotional impact, I couldn't help myself from feeling the message within. If a song it's moving you to begin with?, whereas said messages, should be far more effective at bringing about a certain response of enjoyment, and at very least become so engaging that it literally touches one's very being ( soul ) if not?, than something is seriously wrong with either one's system?, or they simply lack emotion? | feelings?.

I received it yesterday morning but I was busy the whole day from watching a play. Today, I connected it from my Mac Mini to my DAC and the result is joy! Well, I only have the generic cable before as pictured. I believe the main improvements are very noticeable especially on piano notes and nuance (breath from the player) from wind instruments. Granted that I have only about 5 hours of use from the cable, my feeling is that it is a sound (no pun intended) investment. Very happy with the purchase!

That means you choose wisely..., I've a third one due this week, as each look totally different than the last | I only know that the original white one I purchased was the best I've ever heard with acoustic jazz recordings | the drum patterns just popped out, I'd clearly hear each tap tap tap | whack | tick tick | rimshot | bass drum | wooden drum stick striking the metal side of the drum or skins as if everything had better focus | an even greater sense of realism compared to my former 5 usb cables, priced at $345 ( Curious from Australia - pure silver ) | $580 ( Curious Evolve from Australia - pure silver ) | $585 In-Akustik Referenz from Germany - copper ) | $770 ( Neutral Cable Reference " I " ( improved version from Italy - pure silver ) and finally a $945 ( Audience AU24SE made in the USA - silver plated copper ).
But once again, none of them to my mind came remotely close at the sense of separation | layering of lingering of notes | once again realism and weight | the ability to unravel complex passages right before my eyes and ears as if this cables life depended upon it..., no to my mind, this is something very very very unique in and of itself, I only wish I had been aware of this 8 years ago, the money I could've saved, as well as having enjoyed my music that much earlier, just hearing it in its truest form, would've made me take mental notes, and stopped here.
And let's not get started on how well it does with vocalist | strumming and plucking of the guitar | slapping and thunderous bass notes being rendered by the double bass or even a cello can be not only heard but felt..., yes, this is to me extremely rare.

Simply wonderful post here, amandarae;
And one I've seemingly overlooked | thank you Mick for having bought it to my attention. As you've gone far beyond any of us past posters in actually taken the time to fry ( cook ) your cables as a means of speeding up their bun in process | which Mick has been in my ears about buying a Fry Baby, but I didn't take him ( them ) seriously enough until now reading your post.
As I've told anyone within splitting ( I know that sounded rather nasty, but it's merely an attempt at graining street credibility with the homies ) distance that uses a USB Cable?, as it was upon my initial introduction to these cables | which so impressed me and literally forced me to say within | I've to get as many of their other cables before mentioning them on any forum | as they've been times where in the part I've shared say my favorite tubes or cables | isolation footers and so on with others and watched as either supplies dried up all together?, or began to increase in price.
Yet even still, in trying to turn a friend onto a power cord | pair of IC's here and there..., I've come to realize there are still about 3 cables I need myself, so of late I've began focusing my attention to buying these exact same cables for a second time | yet from what I hear from them, seems to make it as Mr. Spook would say a logical observation.
And while I was told..., by another party here, that the Odin 2 power cord was the only one worthy pursing | as the Gold version has to many conductors to properly be re-terminated with well selected AC | IEC Connectors, which in fact are capable of altering the sonic signature of any given signal cable, as a means of voicing it by ear to suit one's system | ears, hence the plating of said connectors, namely pure or red copper | as well as rhodium goes very long ways in off setting the signature of silver plated copper, whether one is trying to correct the balance of a somewhat rounded | creamier presentation?, or changing the sound of one which comes across as slightly toward, by the use of said pure or red copper connectors, be they RCA | Binding Post | Banana Plugs | Spares | AC | IEC plugs or inlets on ones amp, for the latter..., it's all about all of us knowing " our sound " ( of which might strike you as a surprise?, but a lot of people don't have a clue on what they're listening to or for, hence more confusion ) | understanding what's needed to bring about such a sense of balance | beauty | timbre accuracy | tonality, that we no longer listen to the gear ( boxes | components ) yet find ourselves absorbed into the musical reproduction of a finely voiced system, we find ourselves buying more and more music | which is why all of us are here, in search of the Absolute Sound | which in itself as far as producing the scale | dynamic capability of a live event within one's home, is or should be truthfully viewed as an absolute illusion.
Nuff Said..., now back to the only show in town | reality.
And proud the Odin Gold Power Cord is suitable to have its connectors changed ( from the photo I'll drop above, it seems like a easy enough task to me ):
Thanks again, amandarae.
I'm just one of those long winded types, especially when it comes to stereo, and more importantly music ( with a emphasis on acoustic jazz) | where I can chat upon for hours and hours on end.
Be well | Stay safe.

Well deserved young man | well deserved.
I searched for the contact cleaner but it looks like I need to find a store that carries it in the USA else I have to ask my cousin to buy me one shipped to him in London and bring it over when he visit us next month. I also have the Mapleshade Silclear but its messy.

No..., I didn't mean anything by dropping the photo here, as mentioned years ago | I tend to save them into my photo gallery as visual reminders to myself | sort of like a shopping list.
Yet I do recall the company started putting these into metal canister, as the content would evaporate overtime | when exposed to warmer temperatures. I think the last one I got back in 2010, was ordered from Music Direct.
Anywho | do let me check around | as I'm using DeOxit Gold ( mini packs of 5 ) myself.
Be good young man | until next time.
About Deoxit Gold... I'm reading here and there that after a few months the sound gets bad and you have to remove it then reapply it? What is your experience in the matter? I have an awful lot of connections in my system (tri-amping...) and if I have to do it all more than once a year, I'll pass... thanks ;-)

While I've used several of their products in the past, of late I've been using the Cardas Audio Contact Cleaner ( $16 here in the states ) as well as Kontact ( the newer version in an aluminum like container | $50 ) and have them more effective.
For some reason, I just can't pull the trigger on the Furutech Nano Liquid, maybe it's the pricing that makes me go " WTF? ", especially for the small amount of contents in the bottle.
While the photo attached has been used before | once again I save them as visual reminder to myself to buy more, as in today as a matter of fact, as I like having extras around just for the sake of it, should prices go up?.

Which specific cables are these? I'm looking at AliExpress and see a number of options. I've been wanting to try something different in speaker cables for years now, but have stuck with the Canare star quad due to inaction on my part. I run those as biwire but have never been convinced it makes a difference. I could either run two pair of these or jumper them at the terminals. Running two pair would be a problem at the amp end so maybe just jumpers.
If you could share a link to the specific ones it would be helpful. I don't need ICs but might look at a USB cable. I've never been convinced that cables make a difference in digital but I'm willing to try.
Hi,
I bought mine from this seller Valhalla Speaker Cables with angled banana ends.
Edits: 08/19/22
I have been listening to the Valhalla S/C for over a week. Previous cable Clearday silver shotguns. The Valhalla's give me better imaging, depth and separation than the Clearday. Bass is deeper and clearer. I have had the Clearday cables for about 10 years and they were always my go to speaker cable. I think they have been beat.
I am very happy with the Valhalla SC's. Glad that it is performing well in your system.
Just noticed you have arrows for direction on your SC. Mine do not. I bought mine from a different vendor. Still sound great
ejk , my cables does not have the arrows either! The picture is from the ad and not my actual cables.
Back on 4/5/22, I ordered a 3-meter pair of Valhalla speaker wires from Audio & Video Cables Store for $198 dollars shipped to my home in Orlando, FL. But I just checked what those same 3-meter pair of Valhalla speaker wires are from Audio & Video Cables Store today and now it's only $80.81.
I say JUMP ON THEM!!!!!

I jumped on the bandwagon and ordered a 6foot pair for 50.00. Ordered the gold interconnects and gold power cord for 80 apiece. I think those were a little high. They offer the same things from different vendors and not sur which to buy. I ended trying to purchase the ones that had the most reviews and highest ratings.
Are they all built the same?
I ordered some Odin Gold RCA cables from two different vendors and, though they both use exactly the same pictures, the first uses RCA plugs with plastic body, the second uses metal RCA plugs that seem impossible to unscrew. As far as I can tell, both versions sound good. There are at least two other versions, one having not only different plugs but a different WIRE...
The Gold Odin2 interconnects that I purchased just went up around 45.00 dollars on all sizes. I ordered a 1m pair last week for 57.00 and now its 100.00. I guess I reordered just in time.
I feel robbed :)
I paid $140.00 for a 3m pair delivered to my home (CA). What a discount!
Anyway, my pair is getting better and better after about 80 hours now or so of using them. My real test is when I transfer it to my stereo system as it is still in HT duty as of late. What about yours, how do you like it?
Yep, same Valhalla SC I have. Mine's on the cable cooker now as well. Initial impressions were a mixed bag. I heard potential, but found it strangely uninvolving. Not bright, but somewhat clinical. I just have a FryBaby, so I'll cook it a tad longer than the normal 72-96 hour cycle.
Hi Mick,
I too heard some promising sound characteristics from the cable but as I stated in my earlier post, sound was muted to begin with when I first connected the cables to my stereo system. Right now, it seems something is going on with the cable after I have been using it connected to a receiver (Onkyo) in my TV room. Let me explain.
I am no believer of cable "burn in" before, but the Fry Kleaner changes that when I first tried it on my phono cables. I found that the most distinctive transformation before and after "cooking" a cable is the increase in intensity (volume level)in perceived loudness. When I first hooked up the Valhalla SC to my HT/TV rig, listening position about 4 meters from the Main L&R channels (set to BIG in my receiver config), volume setting was set to 61 on the receiver for intelligible sound pressure level. After a week, it was at 56 of which I feel the same sound pressure.
So, assuming I am not imagining things, some transformation is ongoing in the cable(I hope it is not length) that affects its properties to conduct or form magnetic fields of flux (Right Hand Rule of current flow in relation to magnetic field negates the misconception of directional cables). I think it's the dielectric properties of the materials surrounding the wires.
I will keep on cooking the cables and see where it will take me, then I will cook it some more with the Fry Kleaner and when I am done, I expect to be surprise.
Cable burn-in is a mixed bag IMHO. Sometimes it's quite noticeable, sometimes very little in the way of change occurs. When one is using a "cooker", changes still range from significant to mild depending on the cable itself. But either way, I think a "cooker" will bring out the best a cable has to offer. As always YMMV.....cooker or no cooker.
Thanks. There are just so many options out there. They all look tempting but as with all things audio sometimes they work for you and sometimes they don't. The last few cables I've DIY'ed from sponsor VH Audio and they've been superb. But even with DIY it gets expensive but worth it.
