I have a home brew Conrad Johnson clone pre amp. It sounded good. Never leaving well enough alone I decided to upgrade the volume pot. I went with the Goldpoint and it sounded excellent, but over time I could not live with 2 Dbs per click. I then tried the Khozmo as it has 1 DB per step. Good sound as long as I did not make volume changes. When I did there were clicks and loud noises that I could not live with. Nor could my tweeters as my rig is active tri amp.I have just installed the Tortuga LDR board and can say that it is the be all end all of volume controls. It is dead silent and any level changes are seamless and silky smooth. I believe the vision of the Melos circuit of the mid 90s has finally been fullfilled. If you must have the absolute best, look no further.

Ozzie, the zombies are everywhere
Not a DIYer, but I have my eye on a Tortuga LDRXB
the gain control is the most often used - if not only control. Nice to get it the way you want. :)
Did I miss something?
I love the music of Dmitri Shostakovich ...![]()
So says the guy that has a high buck Pass amp powering DIY speakers.
My Zaph ZRT's might be DIY but they are very good, in most respects superior to the Maggie MG 1.6QR's they replaced.
These DIY speakers cost me close to $2000 to make and probably equal or better commercial speakers cost $3500-4000.

I"m using the SR-71's and I would agree with you.
No one needs to apologize for Zaph speakers. There are clearly a serious design by someone who knows what he is doing.

I/WE appreciate you posting good information and upgrades that are work out well. Your work is a value and only adds to the hobby. Lord knows I'm a tinkerer at heart as well. But I wouldn't start throwing stones at gear you know nothing about either. Unlike the reply that WAS thrown at you.
Pardon me airtime, but I have yet to hear a DIY speaker that really makes me want to replace what I have. BTW, my response was the reply to feaner's unsult, not the other way around.
So you are posting how wonderful your DIY volume control is and at the same time knocking a DIY speaker kit??????
If you read carefully I agreed that you were flamed first.
