Class D makes great sense for your application and if the new amps sound much better than the old, who can argue with that! But I don't think Class D will be replacing your tube monoblocks anytime soon. Yeah I know, that wasn't the point. ;-)I'm not familiar with your 24/7 amp and fan setup but the timer outlet linked below might come in handy. I've used these in situations where I might forget to turn something off. Press the button up top and the outlet is powered for 30-minutes, 3-hours, or 6-hours. Your choice. And then it shuts off.

No, but I didn't buy the amp just to disparage it either. In time, I will take it upstairs and see how it fares vs the VTLs, but don't have any expectations. Naturally, I'll feed it with one of the Harmonic Technology power cords that costs more than the amp itself!
I'm delighted at the results in the garage system. Fall is finally arriving here in the south and I love being outdoors. Here is a pic inside the closet behind the left speaker and a video I recorded with the Crown using my iPhone for a thread over at AK. When cranked, the sound projects very clearly much further back to the neighbor's carport. Fortunately, they enjoy the music and for several years, I set up double New Advents in their tennis court for their teen daughter's Halloween parties. In those days, I was using a Threshold Stasis 3 that ran wide open for about five hours. That completely shredded the woofer surrounds one year on the older pair. :)
I appreciate the suggestion about the timer, but the fan does the job and cannot be heard once the door is closed. The airflow is aimed to side openings where the output transistors are located.
