3db, you are focusing on soundstage & imaging, perhaps implying that this is what PRaT about. But in this subthread we have defined PRaT as being, or at least including, microdynamics, i.e. "low level" dynamics: not the big volume changes but smaller, transient volume changes. Are you really insisting that preamp & amps have no effect on this attribute?
Some of us have have argued that microdynamics affects soundstage in some degree by allowing more "air", but I think we would all admit that there is more to soundstage and imaging than that.

Hi Feanor.
What I'm skeptical about in PRAT is the word timing and the use of the word microdynamic.
Timing... Where is the timing in the analog domain? Since analog amps and pre-amps continuously amplify all the time and across the audio frequency spectrum, I fail to see where timing falls into play here. Rythm also involves timing and again I refer to my statement above. It just doesn't apply.
Humans hearing is most sensitive in the midrange and even then, the average senstivity in hearing is at best 1/2 db increments. Anything less than that is not distinguishable. However, these boards seem to attract all the Chuck Yeagers of the world is above average hearing claiming they are able to hear differences that most people can't. This is why I'm so skeptical of this industry.
"Pace", "Rhythm", and "Timing" are all inherent in the music and don't really have anything to do with reproduction.
"PRaT" originated as a silly British reviewers' term that mainly described, (as I suggest), microdynamics i.e. small, transient volume changes.

Thanks. I thought it a misfit as well.
