I see from the Reno Hi Fi site that this was due out in May.
Has anyone heard it?
Impressions please?
With what Pre-amp?
What speaker characteristics are necessary - sensitivity? Impedance?
Thanks
Eril

I'm also curious in regard to which of the "First Watt" iterations has gotten the most widespread acclaim......My personal turnoff is this has become a pricy "flavor of the month club"..... I owned an F1, thinking it was a one-time opportunity to invest in a unique product of minimalist design.....
But when the F2 came out, the "rare product" aspect of ownership was destroyed. It killed the worth of the F1.
I have not been so interested in trying the subsequent iterations, since the price is steep and each iteration is a "crapshoot" in regard to system compatibility and sonic satisfaction.
Now had there been a "trade" policy amongst these models, it may have been a different story altogether. Where the best sonic solution being attained was an element of the investment.
Todd, I second your opinion.
I understand that Nelson Pass incorporated a minor revision to protect the amp against scenarios where a user will precede the F4 with too powerful an amp.
The F4 is a current gain amp without any voltage gain (in fact, its voltage gain is minus 0.5dB) so the system's voltage gain must be handled by your preamp. Or, a low-power amp can leash its outputs to the F4's inputs in which case the F4 acts as power-buffer follower amp that provides current and impedance matching to the speakers. The promise there is to make a micro-power SET drive speakers it's otherwise incapable of.
Since that follower amp concept is one part of the F4's design brief, the designer simply wanted to insure that nothing bad happens if somebody decided to strap the F4/s to a, say 100wpc hi-gain power amp.
Hence deliveries of first amps have been delayed. At least that's my understanding.
Cheers,
No, but thanks for the info. Do you own a First Watt amp?
