That's easy ! just put on an expendable record and listen if the suspension is meaningfully stiffened up it'll be obvious, and most often it'll start to loosen up in 5 to 15 minutes, and that will be obvious even if you're not experienced listening to a Stiffened up suspension as the music will go from flat, lifeless and perhaps distorted to one degree or another, then as the suspension loosens you'll hear some dynamics detail etc emerging, occasionally you'll be going along beautifully and one channel will start buzzing, carefully massage the cantilever end with your finger usually cures that.after 2 or 3 sides an it's still not fully opened up it's trash or, you can do the mosin applying some rubber revitalizer or whatever he uses, I just haven't had the chance to try that yet.
I learned this suspension stuff as I have a friend who endlessly
prowls garage sales and thrifts and a few of those tables were wearing a Stanton 881 or other worthwhile Cartridge with a nice low hours looking stylus.Regards FredJ
