Bry,
it's good that you're using less than the normal anti-skate force. I never realized how much a cantilever will bend just from anti-skate. At least with cantilever based systems, the bending of the cantilever doesn't drastically change the azimuth of the stylus too much. But, with carts like the Decca London, which doesn't really have a cantilever, forcing it out of true with anti-skate does change it's azimuth. With the Decca London Jubilee, I was having all sorts of issues with it just merrily carving it's own grooves -- spinning off white "threads" of vinyl! It wasn't until I took a digital camera with a macro lens and WATCHED the tip of the stylus as the cart played an LP that I realized how much the anti-skate was changing the azimuth of the stylus. I ended up changing arms to a SME IV.Vi and backing off on the anti-skate to make that cart happy. With cantilever carts, anti-skate would change the effective offset angle. I don't think this is as critical as azimuth, but if one could estimate the effective offset angle change due to anti-skate, one could compensate by changing how the cart is mounted in the arm. Even with all of this, I'm still amazed at how well vinyl reproduction works.
