I took some pictures of my Orto styli.

Here are some pictures I took of my 30 (nude fine line) and 40 (FG70) styli using a QX5 microscope. The picures aren't fabulous, but they show some of the detail. If the scope software would let you average a dozen grabs or so, it could really reduce the noise in the picture.

Anyway, you'll notice the 40 diamond is mounted at a slight tilt, but it seems to be compensated for in the grind. The biggest difference is the lack of sharp edges in the 30 profile. I would imagine that the reason the FG type styli have such a long life is that there's not much contact area for a flat spot to develop.
