If you didn't buy it new, the tubes might have gone bad, or someone might have replaced with tubes with ones that don't work well with that preamp. I bought a used M3A from a dealer, and the previous owner had installed tubes that were very noisy in that implementation.If you did buy it new and still found it to be bright and thin, perhaps it was malfunctioning in some way. I haven't found my Audible Illusions to be bright or thin sounding.
