Hey Andy,I've found that aligning a straight level in line with opposite feet (4) to be easiest, as that is the control for elevation. If you try aligning N/S and E/W you are dividing the difference between two adjacent feet. In line with the feet it is then a single control. To decide whether to raise one foot or lower the opposite to attain level I opt to lower one for lower overall center of gravity for the table.
Maybe trying both ways will show what I'm trying to explain?
Any table with 3 feet may be trickier. Then I point the straight level (with mid-point close to the spindle) directly at one foot and adjust, repeat for other two feet.
