....we could test those theories to some extent. I wouldn't be surprised to see "speed" become an issue with lead acid driving a power amp. A preamp seems less likely to cause this, but it would depend on the size and state of the battery in question. The Li cells I'm using (full disclosure--I work for the cell maker) can be made to sag and exhibit a certain level of "slowness" to deliver the full current requested, but you've got to pull a MUCH larger amount of current with regard to C-rate to do it.
Gotta say....as I continue to reduce the noise, the staging and HF clarity continues to improve. Listening the last hour or so.....very nice.
