I bought a Greenlee GT-16 tester at HD yesterday. Did some testing this morning. Not sure how to interpret the results. This particular tester has a sensitivity setting. At the highest setting just about everything registers a signal. Chassis, plugs, cables, etc. At the lowest almost nothing registers a signal. I set it mid-way and what I found was that the Oyaide plugs on my front end component PCs were registering signals at the back part of the plug where the cable comes in, and the FIM plugs on my amps PCs were registering a signal from the IEC to the rear of the plug. All my PCs are unshielded so even along the cables I was registering signals. My ICs are shielded and both the plugs and cables were quiet.
My question is whether it is worth pursuing anything here since my PCs are unshielded anyway. What complicates things is the PC plugs are large requiring 2" copper union, a size that HD apparently does not carry. At least I didn't see it with the others.
