Small system hook up help

If this is in the wrong section please let me know so I can move it right away.

I'm trying to piece together a little project that so far isnt going very well. I just wanted to make a small "surround sound" effect with what I've got. This is what I have so far: Akai AA-A25 reciever (very old), regular RCA tv with one set of outputs on the back and a "Gameport" on the front, two Yamaha NS-A570 tower speakers, two small stereo speakers, and Xbox. Just to put it out there, I want to hook all this up to get "surround sound".

So far these are the connections I've made: tv outputs -> cd input on receiver, xbox red/white rca -> phono input on receiver, and the speakers bi-wired (16g) into the "a" speaker inputs.

When I have the tv on, no sound will come from the speakers. When I have Xbox on, sound is there, but its horrible and all fuzzy.

I'm new and probably dont correctly understand all stereo components so I apologize in advance. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you've got any questions ask away. Thanks!
