1) I have some birch ply and a jig saw, so I'm going to try a couple sandboxes with maybe 1.5 to 2 inches of sand (built a sandbox for my turntable, that worked well.) The speakers will spike into the top plate of the sandbox, then I'll see about isolating the box from the floor a little bit. I can get some rubber "pucks' ($1.00 a pop) at Canal Rubber here in NYC (they made these for a laboratory to isolate its gear), have six on hand, need to pick up a couple more. Another option is round plexiglass "half-spheres" I have seen at one of the plastic places on Canal, would let me "slide" the sandboxes if I needed to (or could use those teflon furniture moving pad/pucks, though may not work as well at "decoupling" the sandbox from the floor.) I have electrostatic hybrids (Innersound Eros) that need to be set up EXACTLY right to work (have tweeked for a couple weeks until finding the "don't touch it, it's just rigth" position.) So I do like the idea of being able to "slide" the sandbox to move the speakers, but I guess if the rubber pucks work better, I can just lift the sandboxes around (though heavy!) Anyways, I have 50lbs of sand left over from my turntable sandbox project, and the wood was free, might as well try it.2) I have used rubber balls under components with decent success. So I tried them under the speakers. Sounded a bit different, but not sure if I liked it or not. Have also thought about making a platform with layers (simular to the "Sub Dude" by auralex). Would be easier to deal with than sandboxes, but maybe not work as well.
All in time, have various projects to work on.
