Pondering building a DIY Enjoyyourshelf rack with the hip joints. Thanks to the helpful info from Barry!Well believe I can find a lathe to mfg the hip joints, thanks to my more mech inclined sister. Though might need to organize a group buy since a mid size lot would be cheaper. Using 3 per component including speakers personally would only need 30 at most, this gets kind of pricey too for so many. 2speakers, 2monos, 1 pre, 1 cdp, 1 TT, 1 DVD, 1 HT amp, 1 projector(?). Probably a minimum lot size range as well.
The rack is a little more elusive. I get the jist, small tube slightly inflated to support shelf. So does it matter about the rest of the rack? Do I need a good frame, shelf material etc...?
I do not have have ready access to a craftsman to build me something along the lines of Barry`s custom maple. Though in time might be able to coax someone into helping me, but would need to provide ample guidance, how to construct.
The arcici, townshend, are to heavy, and along with still points are to pricey for a suspension rack system for me.
I can bring myself to buy a decent rack lick a Taoc, then add the inner tubes & hip joints. These are a Japanese brand but $1K range. I like the lighter aluminum frame AS model which is cheaper too.
Or can I construct a much cheaper DIY MDF rack, solid but not professional, and rely on the inner tube and hip joints to achieve similar peformance?
I need something ASAP. Have a space issue living in Tokyo. A DIY MDF rack can tide me over, maybe needed for a while though 6-12mos, and allow me to tweak and refine the Enjoyyourshelf concepts. But a commercial rack like Taoc, will also provide a quick solution superior to a DIY MDF.
Welcome comments. Any other DIY pics avail?
