Hallo,
yesterday I went to a friend in order to rework my "project four" super duper loudspeakers. (see them at www.ademco.com.pl/ademco/hifi.html)
Being tempted by the LC Audio (Danmark) website advice to use series network instead of paralell, I assembled on my lap the temporary XO according to their shematics, tunded for Reverator 9900 and 18 cm scanspeak 8542 paper midrange. To be honest, in 10 years this was the first XO copied from someone. I always do it myself MYSELF.
In short, after countless trails previously, with 1 order, 2nd order and mixed types, plus lpads, resonance compensation and without etc. the new networt is vastly superior. There is no way back for me. Series is so simple to build (hell to re-calculate), uses few parts, and the SOUND: it is much cleaner, real, lively, dynamic, etc.
(The problem is that I want to rework all my previous speakers now.)Real problems begin with the three ways - those are very tricky to build and I do not know how. Any help would be appreciated.
Probably I wil opt for a combination of serie tweeter/midbass with paralell bass 9as usuall) or better stick to he series network plus biamped bass.
BTW does anyone know how to make passive XO for biamping that goes between preamp and power amp ?
The hi-pass is easy, but the low pass ?
Hey you clever people out there, I am counting on you! ;-)Gotta go ..
LukaszP. S. If you need a great speaker recipe - take the 9700, 2 pieces of 18W8542.
Build some 50 liter box (sealed) and use the XO from LC Audio. Replace cap 15 uF with 33 uF and coil - with a 0,5 mH. Satisfaction guaranteed !!!
