The best tube amp under $4000 is a ten thousand dollar used amp. I nominate the VTL MB 250 triode only monos, a like new pairs can be had on the used market for about $3500. I also second the motion for the RM9. I strongly urge anyone to listen to hybred's before buying. I have yet to hear one that did not simply kill of the very reson for getting tubes in the first place. Roger's design may be the exception, but I remain sceptical (diode rectification is merely a necessary evil for high power).
