Tea,The 7027A I'm familiar with were US made. I've never seen a British made 7027A, let alone a GEC.
These are high output 6L6GC-like tubes. But the pinouts are different. However, to me their tone is not as good as some other high output tubes. I'm familiar with their use in the monster Ampeg SVT guitar amp. And in my opinion the TungSol 6550 loaded Ampegs sound just as loud, but a whole lot better---especially the midrange.
Anyhow, for 7027A fans, the RCA seems to be the best. Maybe, Sylvania makes a comparable 7027A---but guys I know want the RCA.
If you want loud and clean---the 7581A (another uprated 6L6GC type) is another option. The Philips mil spec 7581A is still available in pretty good quantities. But, your amp should be looked at, as the 7027A utilizes all eight pins of the socket.
The 6L6GC and 7581A utilizes only six pins. So, some rewiring may be necessary.
The 6550 will definitely need a heftier power transformer---as it's heaters need around 50% more current to operate. Other changes may be necessary for feedback control.
In any event, mods should be done by someone familiar with your amp and the tubes being modded out.
