My Jolida 801a came to me used with Svet6550C tubes. I listened for while and was intrigued with what I heard about SvetKT88. I used the KT88s for 2-3 months and just switched back to the 6550Cs as an experiment. My sense so far is that the 6550Cs, in this amp, are significantly preferable to the KT88. Shostakovich quartets seem to have a lot more definition, intensity and punch, vocals a little less forward and more natural, a great country album better high end and presence.I've often found these impressions shift as time goes by so I am not making definitive statements. This is my sense of the difference after about one week back with the 6550Cs: better already to my tastes. If one listens mostly to soft music softly, or something in that direction, maybe the KT88s would be better in this amp. I now believe the 6550Cs are better overall for someone like me who listens to a great variety of types of music.
