I apologize for not answering all of your questions and for any wrong doing. It just seemed as if you were attacking me.To be honest if you check the archives you should find that I have said some positive things about Cary. I love there 300B sigs. However after looking around and listening to other 300B amplifiers I'm afraid that they just get pushed down the list. As they are what I consider musical. Far from anilitical. However they lack resolution, boast rolled off bass, treble is not as extended as I would like it to be. They are smooth and easy to listen to though.
OK, I'm rambling. The point is that I haven't heard a lot of 2A3's. My experiance is limited. So I do have trouble compairing sonics. Yet, alone I haven't heard all three in the same system. Then again who get's to audition many many amplifiers in their own system. Especially 2A3's.
On the other hand realizing that parts quality is crutial one needs to look at whats inside. Especially with 2A3's. The Cary's just don't offer as high of a value as say the Fi's.
I didn't get into detail on the Cary's because I don't wish to. Nor have I ever seen anyone post whats inside. Though I know a few people here do know they just don't tell because it is polite. For some reason SET people are friendly as hell. Even you and I have had a little tiff but I think it is more of a mis-understanding. As what can be said in a minute often takes 10 e-mails/posts.
I do ask that if you get a chance give other companies a chance. While it is a pain it will open BIG doors.
Dennis of Cary has done a lot for the re-introduction of the SET to the US but so have so many others. Gordon Rankin of Wavelenth audio is another. We must bow to him for helping re-introduce some classic tubes and also for getting some new tubes to the production lines along with his circuit designs. He is a legend. Also Don Garber of Fi is another stand up guy. Of the three Cary is best know to the mass population for the re-introduction of the 300B amplifier to the mass market in 1989 I believe. However both FI and Wavelength represent the SET as much. Which one offers the best flavor is up to you in the end. Just be sure to sample them all. There are others however I can't write a book right now......some monoplates are calling my name.
