Eli,One other consideration, you ever heard of a 4 watt SS amp? Most are in boom boxes. Probably, $5-10 worth of parts go into the amp of a boom box.
Now, you start comparing high-end 300 watt tube amps to 300 watt solid state amps... Things get a little less clear. Both have quality power units. Fairly sound designs. Room to breathe. To me, companies don't start putting good parts and technology into most SS amps under 100 watts.
With the exception of a few companies. Like NAD. Notice how everyone wonders why a 20 watt NAD amp sounds as good and loud as a 100 watt "XYZ" amp?
Like I said, there is more to tube amps, than just tubes.
