Hi,Yes, I agree fully with your comment about the "fools game". I'm getting soooo tired of swapping this cable for that in the search for audio nirvana. It's an expensive game, too.
I did try a Behringer Ultracurve, but it foreshortened width and depth, and semed to have inherent distortion, so it seems that outboard processors (unless hugely expensive) won't solve the problem, leaving the best place for tone controls within the preamp, or possibly somewhere in the digital chain.
Now, what do we do about this?
They (manufacturers) seem to be able to do it in car audio, but I've never heard a car stereo front end in a home rig, it might be worth trying, using an Alpine or other high quality car cd player as a front end line level device. Hmmmmm....
I wonder if Victor can build a pre or module(s) for a pre that will have tone control?
