In an apartment, when I was living in Cleveland. It was one of those "color-correct" krypton incandescent light bulbs. It made a loud "pop" sound. Kind of like a champagne cork, but louder. Scared the daylight out of me. (I did not know what popped initially. Although I did hear glass hit the table below the open overhanging kitchen fixture.) I also recall hearing a lamp inside a projector "pop" in a similar manner, because the cooling fan wasn't working. In regard to tubes, my big concern is any failure that would send a massive transient out the speakers. (I've never seen a tube physically implode/explode.) A driver tube went out on an Audio Matiere Equilibre I once had, and the loud snap out the speaker can make one hit the ceiling...
I've been told that whether tubes or incandescent light bulbs, oils from the skin can cause failure of the glass on the tube/bulb.
