Back in the early 80's I had 4 - Dynaco MkIII's that I had updated with better filter caps and independant bias setting and a few other minor changes. I used to run 2 of them with the 4 ohm taps in parallel per channel so that I could drive my Strathearn ribbons directly without the usually required matching transformers. They worked great for many years and were very reliable. One day I had some friends over and the system was on but not turned up very loud and all of a sudden - BOOM!. One of the KT88's had exploded and sent a brief shower of glass and sparks at us. It scared the crap out of us initially. Apparently the grid and plate had shorted together in it and discharged all the stored energy in the huge photoflash caps that were in the updated power supply. A couple of new tubes and resistors and a fuse later it was back online and the amp was fine. Sorry about the poor pic quality but those are the very Dyna's.....
