A Variac is certainly a cheaper solution to over-voltage problems with a tube amp where the power conditioning of a regenerator isn't really as big a deal as a SS amp.In your situation though (129V), I feel for you. I've had the opposite problem in some NYC offices, where we'd sometimes get 100-105V and anything with a cheap DC power supply and motor (can you say external hard drives) would simply burn up from overwork. The first time I stuck the multimeter in the socket and saw what I was getting (or not getting) I couldn't believe it. Viva la Con Edison!
I'm going to try a PowerPlant at some point early next year for my front-end gear and possibly my BelCanto EVo.
