This is a common problem in older units. A simple solution to the problem is to install a slide switch in the space currently occupied by a convenience outlet.

Can you show an example Eli ?
So my on -off switch is open - so no power to transformers. Then I need to bridge the terminals on the switch a put a slide switch somewhere? on the power cord??
