Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

RE: Give evidence, please

As I stated below, I no longer sell. The people I work for do sell tubes and all kinds of hard to find vintage components and DIY hardware. My job is to go to these places they find and appraise the value of the collection and get it all back to the warehouse.
I also use tube audio gear in three separate systems in my home. I have been using tube audio all my life; my father owned McIntosh equipment, and still does.
I am not technically inclined enough to refute your statements with that type of argumment, but "Used, good-testing tubes often are stripped of the potential "magic". Why do you think the guy is selling them?? He just re-tubed his system, IMO." AND "Don't spend big money on "used/test good" tubes. You will sell your system short, bigtime." are generalizations that aren't true. I think the hundreds of thousands of buyers willing to shell out big bucks for quality used tubes is evidence enough. Tests good, sufficient current draw, is ALL the "magic" your going to get...We devote long hours to provide people with some of the best NOS & yes used tubes (yes we do this to pay the bills!), only to be slapped in the face time and time again around here with general statements made in ignorance. I can see why Jim McShane got offended with the original post that started this whole argument. The MYSTIFICATION of electron tubes is quite comical and pre-dates the mind-set of the era in which they were invented and made.

"I KNOW you can hear it, but are you REALLY listening?"
