I have the similar MB-450s and don't find that each is much worse heat wise than an older ARC VT-100. I run them in an open space without the cages - they seem to capture the heat.
I've had mine for seven years now and continue to find them to be wonderfully musical amps. They don't seem to mind driving the difficult reactive load of my full range electrostats either. Tube life for me runs about three and a half years. I'm just replacing the outputs for the second time.
