...into which load impedance does this tube amp provide its maximum power?It is commonly believed that most tube amps provide the max output power into 8 Ohms when used with their 8 Ohms taps, 4 into 4 and so on. That is not always true. Max power is only one consideration out of many. Lower output impedance is another - usually at a cost of some power rating. There are as many design decisions as there are designers.
The tap name (16, 8 or 4, or whatever) means very little. Knowing where the max power happens DOES mean a lot.
Given all that uncertainty, a customer is well advised to not go by those numbers, but to try different configurations and settle on the one that guess what, sound best.
