RE: 807 questions

Yes you can treat the 807 as a 6L6.

The 807 was a popular tube in WWII and there are many, many manufacturers of the tube. At one time, every major manufacturer made an 807. Some were re branded, and some are original. I even have some Japanese made ones dating to WWII, Matsushita, IIRC., scavenged from a crashed bomber. They must have made millions of the tube and they are very plentiful even today.

As far as an NOS tube is concerned they are bargains since very few of the newer manufacturers use the tube, fearing liability issues with the top plate cap. As pointed out below, the top plate cap means that the tube can withstand higher B+ voltages compared to a 6L6. Stick to the major brands and they'll be decent tubes ( RCA, GE, Sylvania, etc.). They aren't very expensive even today.
