Re: "Reissue" or "reproductions?" REPRODUCTIONS AND FAKES !

Jim,

I believe that the Chinese tubes which are on these pictures are of rather late manufacturing, so afterwards the end of the embargoes.

I entirely share your point of view about the old Ei tubes.
I own myself Ei EL84s, EL34s, ECC83s, all fine and excellent, which were made at least fifteen years ago.
The EL34s were particularly well made,in fact superb tubes which sound great.

At one period they were even sold under the Siemens brand, and taking into account of their quality it was not a swindle!
I still own a good many of these tubes, the only problem is that those ones are not matched.
About the Chinese tubes, I am not ready to buy any of these !
Indeed, in the year 1993 or 94, I bought National EL34 tubes which were actually Chinese Sino EL34s labeled National.

In a batch of eight tubes, two were unusable, because they had a piece of unsoldered metal which moved inside these tubes.
This piece of metal was one of the two blades (little wings)which are quite in the top of the tube, and are used for cooling one of the grids,I think.

About the TESLA (not JJ) tubes,in the year 1993 I had bought some Tesla E34Ls which were actually some beam power tetrodes with big bottle like the 6CA7s. But their pins were oversized in diameter, so it was almost impossible to fit them in the amplifier octal sockets !
And the quality of manufacture,IMO,was poor. Apart from that, they sounded pretty great but I was forced to send back them.
The RFT EL34s were good tubes, it is a shame that we cannot find them any more.

About the new productions, the Sovtek and Electro Harmonix tubes suits me pretty fine but I did not try the Svetlana “Winged C”s nor new Mullards.( I dare not to write "Reissue "anymore .. :-) )
For these reasons I do not place my trust in any Chinese tubes, even the new ones, and I detest the Chinese counterfeits of Telefunken or RCA tubes !
I hope that you will understand my poor English, sorry.
:-)
