Another piece of tube fokelore is that the Russian tubes are inferior to American and some European NOS.Fact is the Russians have been working with tube technology far longer than we have so it stands to reason they are a bit more advanced in the art we abandoned in the early 1970s.
I read an artical by Sydney Corderman, Engineering VP of McIntosh from 1950 to 1995?. He found the Russian KT88 were superior than anything he used in the golden days of tubes. Now that's not something everyone wants to hear but it makes some sense considering they have been doing it long after we stopped R&D of tubes.
