I've had a pair of JJ 12au7 in my Foreplay for 2 years now, and recently was having some problems (of my own making) with the amp it was connected to. As part of the troubleshooting I swapped out the JJs for the original 5963s that Doc sent with the Foreplay. I forgot about it, and when I fixed my amp I left the 5963s in the pre.For a week I was saying to my wife that my amp sounds like **** now. Then I remembered and put the JJs back in. Sweet sound again.
For the money they can't be beat. For more money there are lots of choices. Of course YMMV.
