Many modern day tube amps share the same tonal imprint as SS, that is they are not overly warm and romantic - ARC amps are certainly in that camp. The difference the I hear is liquidity, i.e. extremely smooth, and dimensionality deeper, blacker background, like the difference between looking at the stars on a night in the city (SS) and the same stars deep in the countryside where there is no light from earth to cloud the atmosphere. But if you can't hear it, then I agree, don't bother with tubes. Oh, there are tube amps with a warmer personality than ARC's if that is what you are looking for.....
