Different circuits/components makes for a tube having an edge in one amp sound not 'over the top' in another amp. I have experienced a new Electro-Harmonix 12AT7 sound extremely close to a NOS Sylvania Gold pin GB6201 in an amplifier.I also preferred EI Elite Gold EL84 over some other NOS EL84, but not at the top of the heap. Considering the cost differences, the new manufacture tubes can be a real bargain. This is encouraging.
