Different circuits/components makes for a tube having an edge in one amp sound not 'over the top' in another amp. I have experienced a new Electro-Harmonix 12AT7 sound extremely close to a NOS Sylvania Gold pin GB6201 in an amplifier.

I also preferred EI Elite Gold EL84 over some other NOS EL84, but not at the top of the heap. Considering the cost differences, the new manufacture tubes can be a real bargain. This is encouraging.
