Should work with pentode/tetrode operation, but with triode or ultralinear the "disconnected" tube provides an AC resistive load that eats up most of the output power, leaving relatively little for the speakers.One might use a pentode on the "disconnected" side, a triode on the active side...
Other possibilities occur to me, but they are complex, exotic, and untested so I won't post them.
