Can you believe I had to come into work today. Well, my loss is your gain. The following is the Cary info I know:The Cary SLA70B Sig is a Class A/AB, push/pull tube amp. It can use 6550, KT88 or EL34 pentode tubes. The amps runs in pentode but it can be modded to run in triode. The model that replaced it is a Cary SLA80. Basically the same amp with a little more power, a pentode/triode switch and other upgrades I am not sure about. Great amp but I'm thinking of moving into the single-ended / OTL world.
I heard the Golden tube about five years ago when the company was new and liked it alot. I kept hearing that the golden tube ran out of steam very quickly so I never got one. I have since learned that all single-ended amps and OTLs need high sensitivity and impedence.
The reason that amps is cheap compared to other single-ended amps is because it uses pentode tube configured as triodes, the 5881s. True single-ended amps use triode tubes like 300Bs or 2A3s, which is where I'm headed.
All of the above info is what I've pieced together. I hope it helps. Let me know if you have anymore questions.
Happy listening!
