My newer Dynaco Mk.III has a date stamp on its OPT of 10/58. I have not looked at the other, older unit yet. It saw service before the second was purchased when going to stereo. They even survived my bringing them back to life. They are now standing main duty and don't worry my wife about the safety of our 11 mo old son. I plan to hand them to him when he goes to college.
If your new piece fo gear is cooking itself, don't blame the tubes, they are the same ones that have given me fine trouble free service. I also have a SS amp that I would like to try welding with some time when I have more time to devote to frivolities. I got it because it simply failed and destroyed a piece of itself. It looked like part of the PS had been struck by lightning. One TIP36 and new PS caps later,(and a few trace jumpers) it is kicking a** again to the tune of 450 W/channel. I don't think it would be fair to blame TIP36's for the failure of the amp, just Bob for building it too close to the limit.
I sure wouldn't mind listening to a Krell for a bit, though I have a feeling that I'd put the Dynas back in...that's just idle speculation. I suspect I wouldn't have let that CJ destroy itself if it were mine, Its designers probably jsut went too close to the edge, and fell over. Happens to the best of us now an' then.
regards,
Douglas
