Chris,Interesting.. I unfortunately have my 6DJ8s packed away after a recent move or I could compare the codes with yours. Amperex 6DJ8s I have:
Amperex Globe-A frame- NOS/NIB
RAM tested- SA low noise Amp A-frame-NEW
RAM - A std- A- Amp A-frame -NEW
RAM -AA std- A- Amp A-frame-NEW
Amperex White Logo USED
Amperex Orange Globe A-frame and 2- halo-USED
Amperex 7308 (in the ARC SP10 now)An interesting thing is that RAM Labs was still selling new Amperex 6DJ8s in 1986 (when I bought the above) with their grading and test results. For years I assumed they were Soviet until I had bought the NOS Globes. These and the 18 Orange Globes are all Heerlen with date codes that are 1969-70. The Globes are all but two A-Frame dimpled getter with the others halo on a stick. I think that the 1968s you have are the earliest Globe labelled I have heard of. The white label Amperexi are from 63-65. Those, by the way are fantastic sounding but far too noisy and/or microphonic for my SP10. The best soundstage of any 6DJ8 I've tried. The low noise 7308s are marvelous too, I wish I had 20 instead of only two.
I think you're correct that the Bugle Boy stopped blowing in the mid-60s until the unfortunate Richardson incarnation. By way of comparison I have in the way of Amperex 12AX7s:
Amperex Bugle Boy -NOS
Amperex- Globe- Holland-NOS
Amperex- Globe- Mullard-GB-NOSand the Bugle Boys are 1963 with the Globe/Holland and Globe/Mullard Blackburn again 1969-70. Fascinating too is that all these three versions are as identical in construction as it is possible for me to tell, both the Dutch and English made. Mullard must have gotten the Dutch tooling. I thought at first that something must be relabelled but these were NOS from good sources and the etched codes were not bodged.
Someday someone will write the Book of Tubes. Then the real arguments will start..
Cheers,
Bambi B
