We now have Richardson Electronics, who owns the Amperex name and can stick it on any tube that they want, so that's the joker card.I don't know when Heerlen ceased production, but I'm trying to find out.
I thought that my Halo getters could be '70, but just the tube type makes me wonder if Dutch Philips tailed off in favor of the 6922 and 7308 towards the end of the decade? Both of the different type orange globe 6DJ8s are Holland sourced.
Although I don't have the exact dates of introduction handy, the ECC88/6DJ8 was introduced in like '58-'59 I believe, with the E88CC/6922 being introduced in like '60 and the E188CC/7308 a year or so after that, say '61. I'm sure that production overlapped to a degree, but I believe many Heerlen 6DJ8s are made in the early part of the '60s, however, if we knew when Heelen shut down, we could better guess.
Here's what I have in the 6DJ8 family where A is delta A for Heerlen and GA (Cm was also a code for the ECC88) is the P/V/M code for the specific 6DJ8:
(2) Old Mullard logo, A frame, dimple getter w/o shield:
A1H2 & A0F4 (no top line, which is odd)
(2) HP labeled, single support halo w/shield:
GA7 A2I4 & GA7 A2I4
(2) Orange globe, single support halo w/shield:
GAC A8D2 & GAC A8D2
(2) Orange globe, A frame, dimple getters w/o shield:
GAB A0B3 & GAE A0K1
(4) Bugle Boy single support, halo w/shield:
GA7 A3D1, GA7 A3B2, GA7 A2C4 (treble clef) & GA7 42C4 (treble clef)
Since some of these were sold as pulls from old electrical test equipment, I'm guessing that most are from the early '60s and not the early '70s, although that could be a definite possibility. Also, there doesn't seem to be any correlation between the two designs and dates. I don't think that Amperex was stamping tubes with the Bugle Boy logo in the early '70s.
Anyway, any comments are welcome.
Take care, Chris
