I've experienced the same thing with the PV-10A. As I understand it, this sound is tube microphonics -- an unwanted vibrational effect, usually heard coming from the preamp's output tubes. The standard fix is to replace the tubes, but I've come to believe that you can also reduce this sound by minimizing vibrations in the preamp. So make sure your equipment stand is exactly level and rock solid. Try adding mass on top the preamp (but be sure to allow for ventilation). You could also move equipment stand outside the listenting room, or if this is not possible, then to an area within the room that has fewer resonances.
